Located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains just over the Continental
Divide and approximately one and a half hours west of Denver lies
Summit County. In terms of other Colorado counties Summit County
is smaller, comprised of only 599 square miles. But with four major
ski resorts and six incorporated towns, Summit County plays host
to nearly 2,000,000 visitors per year. The ski resorts of Arapahoe
Basin, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain and Keystone are surrounded
by the incorporated towns of Blue River, Breckenridge, Dillon, Frisco,
Montezuma and Silverthorne. Over 19,000 year-round residents call
Summit County home and Summit County Government provides a variety
of services such as snowplowing, motor vehicle registration, transportation,
public nursing and social services, just to name a few. The Summit
Stage, a public service provided for free by Summit County Government
to visitors and locals alike, offers year-round transportation between
the towns of Breckenridge, Dillon, Frisco and Silverthorne and also
between the four ski resorts, as well as offering shuttle services
to and from Fairplay and Alma in neighboring Park County. (Taken
