The Town of Dillon was incorporated on January 26, 1883 at the site of a trading post and stage stop. The Town was moved three times; once to be closer to the railroad, a second time to be located between three rivers - the Blue, the Ten Mile, and the Snake. The third move began in 1956 when the Denver Water Board told the townspeople that they must sell their property and be out of town by 1961. The final location for the Town of Dillon was selected on the shore of the new reservoir where the town continues to thrive today.

The Town of Dillon is a full service community with a year-round resident population of approximately 750. With good highway access from Interstate 70, Dillon's beautiful location in the heart of Summit County provides an unrivaled scenic backdrop for an abundance of summer activities. Its close proximity to the famous Summit County ski areas makes it a convenient spot for winter vacationers. The many condominiums and motel rooms bring the peak population to about 4,000 people.

Seven elected officials, a mayor and six council members govern the Town of Dillon. The Town's staff includes a police department, a public works department, a water and sewer department, planning and engineering staff and the Town-owned and operated Dillon Marina.
The Dillon Town Center is home to many Summit County businesses. It provides services, dining and entertainment opportunities within walking distance from Lake Dillon. The Dillon Ridge Market Place and the Dillon Factory Stores, on Highway 6, are a mix of local and national chain businesses offering entertainment, restaurants, retail and services.

The new full-service Dillon Marina in Summit County offers access to beautiful Lake Dillon and world class sailing in Colorado. Boating, trout fishing and mountain recreation opportunities are available for exploring the lake, fishing or basking in the summer sun. The marina offers boat rentals, sailing instruction, racing regattas and is home to the Dillon Yacht Club, the highest club in North America at over 9000 ft. elevation. If you're feeling less athletic or need refreshment, don't miss a trip to the Tiki Bar, located next to the marina, where you can enjoy the view, have a bite to eat and enjoy a libation.

Lake Dillon is home to Brown trout and Rainbow trout, as well as Kokanee salmon. With 26 miles of shoreline, finding a nice secluded spot to cast is not a problem. Nearby are trailheads to miles of paved paths offering spectacular scenic tours. The surrounding National Forest also provides mountain biking, rafting, fishing, camping, hiking and horseback riding.

Although Dillon has retained much of its small town charm, it's definitely not sleepy. Summer in Dillon is unrivaled for family fun with boating on Lake Dillon, free Nature Nights, Friday Farmers Markets and concerts at the open-air Lake Dillon Amphitheatre. Enjoy the vistas, fresh air and pocket parks while taking scenic walks, in-line skating or bike rides along the paved bike path that circles the lake.
